Our Story:

shirley.jpg The famous Northwood Players was a seniors' choral group founded by Shirley Burnstein back in the 1980s. After a split from the original chorus, and under the leadership of Shirley and co-director, John O'Halloran, a new choir was born: The New Players Choral Society.

Shirley decided to put the producing and directing duties into John's capable hands shortly after she realized her health was beginning to decline. Sadly, this wonderful, longtime driving force passed away at the end of January 2015.

Undaunted, the fledgling choral group continued on; and with fresh enthusiasm, talent, and direction they are now reaching for new heights.

Director, John O'Halloran

How The New Players Choral Society operates:

We are a registered non-for-profit entity that has been operating since 2010. The Players are funded in part by the Nova Scotia Dental Association. Our Board of Directors consists of a Musical Director, Treasurer, Public Relations Director, Publicity Chair and Recording Secretary.

Presently, the robust chorus has forty members ranging in age from 60 to 99. The Society entertains at numerous venues such as retirement facilities, various churches, hospitals and hotels. As well, we put on public performances in HRM and throughout Nova Scotia.

Our members bring joy, and a sense of hope to many through music; always keeping in mind John's motto: "Music is the Best Medicine."

PLEASE NOTE: The choir is accepting new members . Reading music is not a requirement. You should just enjoy singing (Shirley's way). All welcome. Call 902 4333094 or E-mail: conjon645@bellaliant.net
